Two locals embark on 2,500 km canoe trip
Chris Petrie, of Parkland County, and Tony Ebdon, of Spruce Grove, are about to do some paddling. A lot of paddling. The pair will be travelling by canoe from Fort Edmonton to the Hudson’s Bay.
“This is the same river trail that the fur traders once traveled,” says Ebdon, “Chris and I will be living in Canada’s wilderness for two and a half months. We’ll be seeing a lot of wildlife!”
Besides interacting with bears, beluga whales, and owls, Ebdon and Petrie will be participating in Edmonton’s Capital City Clean-up, planting 100 trees, putting up 50 birdhouses, and conducting water quality tests on the North Saskatchewan River. If that wasn’t enough, they are also hoping to raise $10,000 for the Big Wild, which funds conservation projects.
This trip is a part of their work with the Canadian Shield, the charitable organization they founded that seeks to “utilize adventure travel as a medium to educate, inform and inspire others in the community.”
