Doing landscaping in Stony Plain?

gradeOn March 9th, Stony Plain’s new Lot Grading Certificate Program was implemented.  If you are doing landscaping, there are new guidelines you need to be aware of.

Rough Grade must be between 10 cm and 20 cm below final grade for clay.  Once you have received your Rough Grade Certificate, you must complete the Final Grade within one year.

For the Final Grade stage, spread out topsoil evenly over your front and back yard.  Rent a roller to company and smooth the topsoil; this will prepare it for sod, mulch, or stones.  The Town of Stony Plain cites:

If rocks, wood chips or other decorative material is planned, the clay base (rough grade) must be raised to final grade before placing the decorative material. Rock or wood chips do not make up the 10 to 20 cm of final grade, since surface water can flow through those materials.

For topsoil, Final Grade must between 0 cm and 10 cm below final grade.

For finished landscaping, such as sod or concrete, Final Grade must be between 10 cm above or below final grade.
