Spruce Grove lands national soccer event
Canada’s best college soccer players will converge on Spruce Grove next year as NAIT plays host to the 2010 CCAA Soccer Championships.
Organizers for the event said one of the reasons the NAIT bid was successful was because of the venue, West District Sports Park in Spruce Grove.
The $12 million premier sports facility features twin artificial turf fields and a full concession. It opened in June 2008 and has hosted events ranging from Edmonton Eskimos practices to high school football games and youth soccer tournaments.
Spruce Grove Mayor Stuart Houston said the city is looking forward to hosting athletes from across the country.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for Spruce Grove to build on its reputation as a venue of choice for sporting events on a national scale,” he said.
“The athletes, coaches and organizers of this event can count on the hospitality of our residents and businesses to make their experience in Spruce Grove memorable.”
