A woman from Spruce Grove is suing the popular local attraction

Cheryl McEnery, of Spruce Grove, is suing the Edmonton Corn Maze for $300,000. In her statement, she claims that on September 1st, 2007 she slipped and fell in the maze, breaking her wrist in the process.

McEnery is accusing maze owners, Jesse Kraay and Dan Horneman, of being negligent in keeping the maze path dry and clear of obstructions, and failing to warn her of the potential risks.

The popular local tourist attraction features a maze cut into a field of corn; this year resembling a curler from above. The company’s web site says that the maze:

can be walked in under 30 minutes, most directionally-challenged visitors – adults and children alike – will require about one hour to travel through the maze of more than 5 km of twists and turns and 85 decision points.

what a sad world this lady lives in.. 300g!!!!! for what missing a week from her job at Mcdonalds?? she should get a big box of corn and a sorry letter at most.

Geesh!! That is how good clean family fun gets ruined for everyone. I want to hear more of her story...Has Poor vision eye wear...and being a klutz....been ruled out yet??? Or is she someone who went unnoticed in our community while injured?....Does she have an elderly parent she couldn't care for or lift while injured?..A child in a wheel chair ... Read Morethat inhibited some intensive care??.....A job she couldn't do, because it required a lot of data entry?....Did she need community assistance?...a little support?...What are her REAL issues...?? Something "BROUGHT" her to this law suit....I think we need to find out what that was...so our community can look at it and fix this together...or we are going to lose the Corn Maze together. Oh!! And do I think $300,000.00 is going to fix this "NO WAY"...it is only going to label her, and anger our community.

I just threw up a little. I sure hope she doesn't win this cash grab. This kind of claim is why the rest of us need to fill in waiver forms everywhere we go, as businesses need to "hedge" themselves" against useless crap lawsuits.

I find it a shame that this woman is suing over something that seems to be fairly frivoulous. In 2007, my husband and I took my nephew through the corn maze and I was 6.5months pregnant at the time. When we paid to enter, we were told to be careful, as sometimes there are obstructions in the maze. But during the 1.5hours we were in there(like I said, pregnant and slow), staff came through at least 3 times that I saw and were cleaning up messes, that other visitors left behind, such as waterbottles, random garbage, etc. I am sorry that she broke her arm, but unfortunately you take a risk doing anything at any given time of day. No staff member shoved her and caused her to fall. Therefore it should not be the fault of the maze owners. I seriously hope she is awarded nothing.
