Spruce Grove teacher gets 39 months in jail
Today, Brian Nickel was sentenced to 39 months in jail for sexual interference. Provincial Court Judge Al Nemirsky made the decision during Nickel’s final appearance at the Stony Plain Courthouse. The Crown had asked for a 6 year sentence while defense lawyers were hoping for no more than 30 months of jail time.
In July of 2009, the former junior high teacher at St. Marguerite Catholic School in Spruce Grove, plead guilty to the sexual affair with his 14 year old student.
Nickel met the female student during the 2007-2008 school year. They were together throughout that summer; exchanging text messages, phone calls, as well as explicit videos and photos of themselves. The two also used an empty classroom at St. Marguerite’s to perform oral sex on each other. The Edmonton man’s collection of pornography included over 900 images of minors, as well as 8 videos.

I think that it is Aweful that this”Teacher” didn’t receive a harsher penalty. These are our Children that we entrust to the school, a supposed to be “Safe place” when away from parents. The whole legal system needs to have it’s head examined when it comes to protecting Children from these vultures. So he got a slap on the wrist – the kids in the videos and his daughters best friend have to live with this forever – he just moves on – oh what a punishment!
