Spruce Grove gives green light to emergency vehicles
Spruce Grove’s emergency vehicles will soon get the jump on traffic when responding to an emergency.
Pre-emptive traffic signals at critical intersections within the city will automatically change to green for responding Fire Services vehicles.
The technology is currently in use in many municipalities across Canada, and is shown to improve response times and traffic safety.
“Spruce Grove Fire Services has an excellent record for response times, and this technology will help us maintain that record as the community grows while more importantly improving safety for firefighters and the public,” said Fire Chief Robert Kosterman.
City Council has earmarked $200,000 for the project, which is scheduled to be completed later this year.
