On October 12th, 2010 members of the RCMP Tri Municipal Drug Section with assistance of members of the EPS / RCMP Green Team executed a search warrant at Willowview Boulevard in the Village of Spring Lake, Alberta. The warrant was based on an investigation initiated out of Stony Plain RCMP detachment which led investigators to the property where approximately 100 marijuana plants were found growing in various rooms and garage of the residence. This was found to be a very sophisticated set up, which yielded very large abundant plants, some as tall as five to six feet high.

Spring Lake grow operation

The potential value of the plants seized at this grow would be in the neighborhood of $200,000.00. RCMP also seized approximately 2 pounds of processed marijuana, approximately five thousand dollars cash, and evidence to support charges relating to trafficking of the marijuana. In addition RCMP seized a small quantity of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), and hash oil. Damage to the residence being converted to a grow was extensive. A female age 35 of Spring Lake, Alberta was arrested at the scene and will face charges of production of controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of controlled substances. She will be in Stony Plain Provincial court on November 17, 2010 at 9:30 AM.

Tips from the public to the anonymous Stony Plain RCMP Drug Tip Line were instrumental in identifying this grow op and police would encourage the public to call (780)968-7212 when suspicious activity is observed.

“The body was under the water,” Const. Kelly Willett said, but not under the pier. Before an autopsy took place, there was no indication how long the man was in the water before his body was discovered. No one has been reported missing to police, and no one has been taken in for questioning, Willett said. The man was not dressed to swim. How long the body was immersed or the circumstances leading to the incident are not yet known.
