Problems with construction

Residents of Folkstone Place, a townhouse development in Stony Plain, have had enough. On Monday, the Alberta Liberals presented a letter to the legislature on behalf of these homeowners. Complaints include roofs that leak, flooded basements, peeling paint as well as a failure to meet development promises.

Liberal leader Dr. David Swann was quoted in the Edmonton Sun as saying: ”Albertans are paying a high price … for the Stelmach administration’s unwillingness to face the problem.”

A representative for the developer, 1075990 Alberta Limited, says that they have responded to all complaints in a satisfactory manner.

Habitat for Humanity coming to Stony Plain

There is hope for those looking to becoming a first-time homeowner in Stony Plain. Despite the recession, housing prices remain high throughout Alberta, and are still out of reach for many local residents.

Habitat for Humanity is hoping to change that by offering homes to residents who meet the following criteria:

annual income between $32,000 and $54,000
children living at home who are under the age of 18
work or live in Stony Plain
have never owned a home
willing to volunteer 500 hours
